The Standard Is Set

There are few things more magical than exiting Kenmore Station, turning left and walking towards Fenway Park.  That hallowed baseball ground, 100 years and counting, where this writer actually proposed to his wife during a private tour.

But as the crowds swell and the hawkers of programs and peanuts start to intrude there's another path you can tread.  Because if you pause and look left you'll spot one of Boston's best brunch spots. The Eastern Standard Kitchen.

Reservations on game day are helpful but not mandatory, and if you don't mind sipping your first mimosa at the bar then the wait shouldn't be too painful.

As to seating, whether you'd prefer to sit outside in the gently cooled veranda, or inside in one their classic red leather booths the result will be the same.  A standard of service (pun intended) that defines the term excellence.

We've been dining at The Standard for some ten years, and during that time have never ceased to shake our heads at the predictive, effortless and gracious team who run the front of house.  The food has always been terrific - a wide range of raw bar and modern American style food - and the atmosphere and build of the space heartwarming.  Think the best ever hotel bar with the cosiest dining space and you won't be far off.

But really it's on Game Day that The Standard really comes into it's own.  Arrive before the crowds swell outside and watch through the bottom of your beer glass as they slowly walk to Fenway.  At the end of the game, return to this culinary safe haven and watch the reverse.

Happy or sad (depending on the season), you can watch like minded crowds fighting their way back onto the T while you hold a final, pleasing beverage until the traffic and fans depart allowing your speedy get away.

So #taketheworld my friends, use The Standard as your experiential book end, and make Game Day more than just hand cracked peanuts and a slightly pricey beer.
