The temples of Cambodia are epic. As old as creation, or at least the 12th century.  And a photographer or spiritualists dream.

If you want to know the deep history then there are more eloquent and informed  guides than I. 

However I do have a tip - and that's to take a private guide for a half day.  Most tours take the full day and involve a bus and plenty of participants who are let's say a little less agile. 

So instead grab a one to one experience for just a few bucks more and tailor the day to your needs and the temperature outside. 

One more suggestion - only do Angkor itself first thing.  The heat gets up fast and it's very exposed.  Sunset may sound romantic but temperatures often rise after mid day alongside the stones heated by the sun.
